I’m exhausted, but they had fun!

I really do think that the reason we generally don’t have the ability to have children later in life is because God knew our limitations. Seriously, who has the energy to chase toddlers and read with a fidgety 6 year old after the age of 50?!?

This last week we took care of the grandkids while their parents went away on a trip. The first bit was a lot of “I miss my mommy” of course, but for the most part we got to play and read and teach and LOVE! Our granddaughter is 6 and will be 7 in a few months. Her little brother is just 18 months old, and they are both VERY energetic. I am not.

I think my favorite part of having this time with them was seeing my granddaughter just love her little brother. Yes, he got a little annoying and knocked her toy down and wanted to lay on her while she watched t.v., but for the most part they just play and love each other and talk and talk and talk.

One of the biggest blessings in this was to watch my husband with them. He and I found each other again later in life and didn’t get to raise little ones together, so being able to see him teach and love and be such an amazing grandpa was wonderful. Everyone should have such a teammate! He sent me to the store when I needed a break, and put the baby to sleep with his magical rocking.

We took the kids to church with us on Sunday and big sister got to go to Sunday school and get a part in the Christmas play! Little brother was tired and cranky and I’m just grateful for my sweet friend who took him to the nursery to play. Of course, after church he proceeded to be adorable, and pass out with the dog when we got home.

So like I said, I’m exhausted. I have toted and carried and changed diapers and mediated battles and done school drop-off and pickup and bathed and snuggled and sang and prayed and laughed and laughed and laughed! It was an amazingly tiring but wonderful weekend and we are so blessed to be able to have this time with them.

I pray you have the opportunity to have times like this with the littles in your life. Know that no matter what your age (or theirs) you have much to contribute to their world!
