Not Today….

My phone rang and a strange number popped up on the screen. We were at the lake and the area code matched the resort, so I picked it up. My husband’s voice came across the line, sounding breathless and stressed. “Can you bring the keys down to the ramp?” “Of course, love. be right there.” The way he sounded, I wasn’t going to stop and ask questions.

When I got to the ramp, he was there with his kayak that was half-submerged. He was soaked. Car keys? Gone. Phone? Gone. Tools and fishing gear? All gone, but my husband was alive. He was in the middle of the lake when his kayak started taking on water and tipped over. Thanks to the kindness of strangers, he was towed back to the dock after swimming for half an hour.

I’m still a little in shock – and so, so grateful that God intervened. What could have been the worst tragedy is not.

Father God, thank You for the miracles You perform on our behalf. Thank You for the kayaker who started to tow him, the people in the pontoon boat who stopped and towed him in the rest of the way, and for Your Grace in all that we do. I thank You and praise You, in Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
