I love to travel and see new places. That being said, I’ve been away from the grandbabies for a bit and I’m REALLY missing them.
The girl one is going to be eight in a couple weeks – she’s just so smart and sassy, and I love telling her “dad” jokes. She tends to keep us on our toes, it’s that time of life when you learn about the importance of telling the truth and treating people with respect, so there are lots of object lessons and “corrections.”

Fortunately for all of us, there are also lots of amazing moments. I love my sassy princess and wouldn’t trade her for the world!
She has a little brother who is just the funniest little guy, and I get a lot more time with him than I do with her. I know once he’s in school that will change so I take all the moments I can get!

He’s going to be 2 in a few months, and is learning more and more words and behaviors. A couple weeks ago he called me “Damma” and it just melted my gramma heart.
Being Gramma really is so much more fun than being a young mom was. It’s not that I don’t love being a momma, it’s just that being a young mom brings with it the responsibility of making sure they actually survive to adulthood! As a gramma, there isn’t the stress of thinking you’re going to ruin this little person by not teaching them something, or worrying that a grain of sugar will turn them into a diabetic. As a gramma you get to be a little more chill and just kinda roll with it and enjoy the littles!
Tonight their auntie is watching them and she’s so good about sending little videos so we can enjoy the moments while we’re away. That’s a double-edged sword that I’m sure other grandparents understand.
Tonight I thought about my own grandma. We moved away from her sphere of influence when I was about 9, and there was so much that we didn’t have a way to share with her. There was no Snapchat, FaceTime, or even the ability to send photos unless you sent them through the mail. I know she was busy, but I wonder sometimes how difficult it must have been for her to have her grandbabies so far away – not just us, but many of my cousins too. I’m just so grateful for technology that allows us to be in touch and experience at least some of the little moments!
Update – That was at the beginning of this year. It really is amazing how fast they grow, and How much they have changed since then! I’m still so grateful for technology that allows us a window to their lives when we are away, and I can’t wait to get home from this trip and get all the snuggles!
How do you use technology to make life a little better?
